once again i am back to making fanart for a movie i haven’t even seen yet XD;;;
aaa missed アナと雪の女王 when it was in theaters….waiting for it to come out on dvd ^^ (<- here in japan. i know it’s been out in the us for a while now. idk it might even be out here in japan already >3> haven’t checked recently) anyway XD
ever since i heard 「Let It Go〜ありのままで〜」i thought it kinda fit thranduil. i kind of picture him singing it as he’s forced to lead what’s left of his people back from battle after his father was killed, making him king. he’s resolved to become strong and be a good, better king himself.
today i found a gender-bended version of the original (english) version on weibo and i listened to the meaning of the lyrics fully. what is interesting, is that while i think the japanese lyrics represent the lonely and scared (yet determined) thranduil of the past, the english lyrics still represent him, but more in the present sense. the king who wants to protect his people, and who’s not really afraid to be rather ruthless if he has to be in order to do so. aka the thranduil that put his kingdom in isolation to protect them, the thranduil that doesn’t care about the outside world, the thranduil who chose not to help thorin’s people (for fear of losing a lot of his own)
again i haven’t seen the movie yet, so this is all just my interpretations from the song alone. ^^
thranduil belongs to j.r.r. tolkien
lyrics belong to disney
上手よ!
And アナと雪の女王 is now on dvd in Japan ^^
I saw it for sale and rent at Tsutaya
By the way, your interpretations of the song ありのままで in both Japanese and English are very true! Now that you have written about how it represents Thranduil, I thought about it myself and agree with you!
(I haven't seen the movie yet either! But every shop in Japan plays either the English or Japanese version over and over so I already know all of the lyrics! hahaha)
